(1)sense此处用作及物动词,意为“感觉到;意识到”。
e.g.:He sensed danger and stopped.
She sensed that something had happened to her family.
sense还可用作名词,意为“感觉;意识”,其后常接介词of。
e.g.:When you touch ice,you have a sense of cold.
She has no sense of business.
(2)sadness 不可数名词,意为“悲伤,忧愁”。其形容词形式为sad,副词形式为sadly。
e.g.:Her heart was full of sadness.
英语中,有形容词加后缀-ness可构成抽象名词,表示性质、情况、状态等。
ill (生病的)→illness疾病
kind (友好的;仁慈的)→kindness仁慈
good(善良的)→goodness善良
happy(幸福的)→happiness幸福
(3)pain既可以用作可数名词,也可用作不可数名词,意为“痛苦;苦恼”,指精神上或肉体上的痛苦。其后可接“in +表示身体部位的名词”,表示“某部位疼痛”。其形容词painful 意为“痛苦的;惨痛的”。
e.g.:I have a pain/pains in my head.
This is a painful lesson.
2.I look up the history of … 我查阅了……的历史。
look up意为“(在词典、参考书中或通过电脑)查阅;查询”,为“动词+副词”型短语。代词作其宾语时,只能放在两词之间。
e.g.: I don’t know the word.Let’s look it up in the dictionary.
He looked up some new words in the dictionary.

3.be known for
be known for意为 “因……而出名”,相当于be famous for。
e.g.:Einstein was known for his theory of relativity.
